Information about the Nassau Traffic Court’s DISTRACTED DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM (cell phone violations & texting violations)
HOW TO GET 5 POINTS REDUCED TO ZERO POINTS!
On July 7, 2016, Nassau County’s traffic court (Cooper Street)
initiated a new policy which is called the
DISTRACTED DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM.
This policy pertains to how cell phone tickets, texting tickets, and
electronic device tickets will be handled by the traffic court.
Below are the new rules that are now in place.
A motorist who is charged with the distracted driving offense,
1225-D Prohibited Use of an Electronic Device or
1225-C2A Improper Use of a Cellphone,
may be offered the opportunity to enter the DDEP. Upon successful completion of the DDEP, the motorist will have pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of “P1202-B2” Parking Within 15 Feet of a Fire Hydrant.” This allows the motorist an opportunity to have a 5-point violation reduced to a no-point violation.
